"Sub Hoc Pondere Cresco"
Under this Weight do I Grow

When I first began this quest for information on my Sproule heritage, I never imagined that it would take 20 years to finally have a door opened, and boy, did it ever OPEN! It is amazing how few details can be passed down throughout many descending branches of a family and they can be "just the right ones" to help connect everyone and confirm a family's history. These pages outline a story of the Noble Sproule family who left Ireland in the early part of the 18th century to start a new life in Canada on the promise of a land grant. The recurring details of this tree were the prolific use of the first name "Noble" and the oral history of Noble's military career with the 79th Cameron Highlanders at the Battle of Waterloo (among many other battles). There seems to be a strong military tradition in this family as well as many lovers of history and the arts. There are many Sproule families throughout Ontario, Canada that I suspect may have some connections with this family. I have only posted the information I have been able to document or feel fairly certain of, but would welcome any additional information or corrections.

I would also like to acknowledge that this information is a compilation of research shared by other Sproule cousins in this tree who are spread throughout Canada and the US and I would especially like to thank: David Sproule, Hugh Sproule, Mike Dobson, Mike Shannon, and Catherine Campbell. Special recognition and gratitude to Linda Mann of Georgia who found a suitcase at a yardsale with more treasures to add to our family than one could imagine and was kind enough to pursue her own hunt for Sproules! Thank goodness she found us! A final thank you to my Dad who searched his memory and came up with just enough of the details and help to make a difference in this search.
